How to end a party in style

Everyone loves hosting a great party, and for the most part many of us are happy to keep the party going as long possible, but what about those times when all you want to do is reach for your bed and call it a night?

Being a fabulous hosts means that your parties can take on a life of their own, with crowds merrily enjoying your hospitality longer than you expect.   And while we all strive to be the perfect host, when your guest start planning a sunrise menu, you need to pull out a few subtle signals that the party is over.  Next time your party fails to wind down on its own, follow these 5 steps that will bring you the ‘goodbye’ you are longing for without worrying about insulting your guests:

  1.   If changing the tempo of the music does not help, try lowering the volume, and if drastic measures are called for, simple shut it off.
  2. Start clearing the table, or for less subtle signalling, start loading the dishwasher.
  3. If there are leftovers, start doling them out, nothing says “goodbye” like a doggie bag.
  4. Blow out a few candles to signal the end of a party, or reach for a light switch when you really want to get people moving.
  5. Stop serving alcohol and start pouring coffee.

….And when all else fails, thank your guest for coming and let them know you are happy to call a local cab company to ensure they get home safely.
